Project Name – The Lodge Trust, Market Overton

Slate supplied – SIGA Heritage, Rutland

Roofing Contractor – Greys Artstone Ltd

SIGA Heritage were chosen to inspect the Lodge Trust building, a residential home for people with learning difficulties in Market Overton, following the delamination of a natural imported product which had been laid 18 months previously.

The Lodge Trust building was overseen by David Tubshaw, The Conservation Officer for Rutland County Council, representing the heritage significance for the area.

Mr Tubshaw stated that he did not want concrete reproduction tiles on the building, as, in his opinion, there was no suitable reproduction product on the market.

During the meeting, it was explained that SIGA Heritage was in the process of developing a Collyweston reproduction slate and that, with his input, SIGA Heritage could produce something to meet his requirements. Following several meetings, an acceptable texture and colour was developed and agreed upon and a new tile was then manufactured for the project.

The failed slates were removed and replaced with the new SIGA Heritage slates, namely Rutland.

As the slate was newly developed for this project, Greys Artstone Ltd roofers were the first to use and lay the product. Since the installation, the diminishing courses have had many sizes added to improve the look even further.

Upon completion, the clients feedback was that he was “Delighted, as the new slate gives the appearance of the original slates”, continuing, “The quality of the SIGA Rutland Heritage Reproduction Stone is excellent and I have added peace of mind that the slates have a 25 year guarantee.”

The Heritage Range of artificial stone roofing products are hand crafted to give an authentic roofscape, offering detailed moulding, a choice of colours and a range of sizes.

Each individual slate is hand crafted using moulds taken from stone slate originals. As with natural stone, shades vary, with no two slates being identical. This, combined with the surface detail and hand colouring, ensures a truly authentic roofscape.

SIGA Heritage Reproduction Stone roofing slates have been designed in consultation with professional roofers, conservation officers and architects, and achieve an easy to lay slating format, which results in a coursed and diminishing stone slate roof.
