Project name: Orchard Gate, Kent
Slate supplied: SIGA 39
Main contractor: Millwood Designer Homes
Orchard Gate in Kent is a hamlet of 37 private new build homes, where each property has been
carefully designed with a mix of styles. Its idyllic setting amongst the traditional orchards of the Kent
countryside is surrounded by farmland with distant views of the North Downs.
Steeped in history and classed as an aspirational place to live, the area is a popular setting for
weddings and conferences with one nearby building, Grade II listed Bradbourne House, dating back
to Tudor times.
The main challenge for Millwood Homes was to create a look and feel that reflected the character of
the area over past centuries, giving the sense that the buildings have grown organically over time.
This is where SIGA came in.
Millwood chose SIGA 39 due to its personality and appearance combining flawlessly with the area
and a number of the properties within the development. Furthermore, the ease of SIGA 39’s
installation and the warranty available played an important part in Millwood’s material selection.
Such was the harmony of SIGA 39 and Millwood’s development, Orchard Gate was successful at the 2015 London Evening
Standard New Homes Awards, seeing off stiff competition and picking up the prestigious ‘Best Large Development of 2015.’
Following the accolade Jeff Elliott, Deputy Managing Director of Millwood, said: “This is one of those rare moments when we can play a part in creating a new hamlet in the heart of the Kent countryside and ensure the future productivity of the surrounding orchards and fruit farms.”
